Kiribi Kuboto Lighter Review

Kiribi Kuboto Lighter

We have carried Kiribi Lighters for about 4 months now and feel that it is time to perform a review on one of the Kiribi lighter products.

The lighter to be reviewed is the Kiribi Kuboto Lighter in Black Nickel finish.

MSRP: $100 USD

Upon the first glance, the lighter comes in a very nice gift box. The box has colorful images, including Kiribi's logo and a magnetic lid. Inside the box, the lighter is packed well and included are product instructions and a brief company history.

I am very pleased with the finish and appearance. The finish is flawless, and is a perfect Black Nickel, dark with a gloss. The design is very sleek and the lighter fits well within the hand, bearing notible weight to the product. It almost feels like I am hold a fat IM Corona Old Boy, as this lighter is slightly larger.

Using this lighter is as straight forward and easy as you would expect. As we always recommend, purge your lighter before its first fill. This will balance out any pressure differences and allow only butane within the gas tank.

On the top, the lid will flip up via the lever. You have a flint screw, this can be used to adjust the pressure on the flint or completely back it out to change your flints out. Kiribi flints are hard, similar to Zippo flints and certainly not as soft as IM Corona flints. The price point for Kiribi flints is fantastic, and they come in a nifty little glass jar. Lastly you have your flame jet and your flint wheel.

On the bottom, you will find the butane fill port as well as the flame adjustment screw.

Upon ignition, the Kuboto lit up immediatly, the flame burned well, needing absolutely zero adjustments.

Kiribi offers 3 finishes for the Kuboto, Black Matte with Chrome, Silver Satin and Black Nickel. They also offer each finish in a "short" style. It is essentially a "mini me" version of the Kuboto with a smaller fuel tank

In summary, from our usage, the Kuboto is an excellent lighter. Perfect if you are in the market for a new lighter and want a bit higher quality than Xikar (the comparable is the Pipeline) and what a lighter slightly less expensive than an IM Corona Old Boy.

The Kiribi lighter is assembled in Japan and offers a two year manufacturer’s warranty against defects.

Vector Mega-Pump Table Top Torch Lighter

Our first impressions:

The Mega-Pump by Vector KGM is virtually identical to the Tri-Pump. The difference is there is only one burner in the Mega-Pump. (Three burners in Tri-Pump)

Packaging

Vector KGM Packages nearly all of their products in a gift box. Some are offered in a metal case, others, as the Mega-Pump are placed neatly within a black press-board box sporting the Vector logo and graphical images of the Mega-Pump. The product packaged well from the factory and as expected, will be packed extremely well from us at Cigar Manor.

Color Choices:

The color choices are status quo typical Vector KGM styling. Offered is Chrome and Black, Nickel Satin, Black Matte, Gunmetal, Chrome Satin and High Polish Chrome, the same finishes as offered on the Tri-Pump.

Weight & Balance:

The Mega-Pump is heavy, weighing in by itself at approximately 1 pound 6 ounces. This is 4 ounces lighter than the Tri-Pump. This is good, since it is designed to be a table top lighter, the lighter will stay put and not roll around on you. As for balance, the lighter is solid, not top heavy, not bottom heavy. The balance is good.

Ignition and Use:

Vector KGM manufactures one of the finest lines of butane torch lighters available on the market today. Filling of the Mega-Pump is easy, below we have included a diagram provided by Vector KGM. The ignition switch is solid,  large and comfortable to use. The handle offers an easy area to hold on to the lighter, unlike others we have tested, you are basically holding the lighter by the fuel tank. Vector KGM has affixed a foam bottom to the base of the Mega-Pump, this not only helps against scratching the surface it resides on, but it is relatively anti slip as well.

As expected, with only one independent burner, the power was considerably less than the Tri-Pump. However, we found it to be more than sufficient and actually enjoyed this. We didn't have to worry about over torching our smoke. As always, we lit up cigars ranging from 50 to 60 + gauge, experiencing perfect burns.

One cool thing that Vector KGM does, is they typically test their products for use at specific altitudes. The Mega-Pump has been Altitude Tested up to 8,000 ft.  This is 4,000 ft. lower than the Tri-Pump is rated for us at. So if altitude use is a requirement, you might want to consider the Tri-Pump.

Fuel Economy:

We expect the fuel economy to be nearly twice that of the Tri-Pump. We are recording the usage on our Tri-Pump review.

Price

At about $100, this lighter is priced perfectly for what you get. However, there are always more or less expensive options out there, this lighter is a solid choice that is bound to last for years.

Long Term Use:

TBD

Warranty:

Backed by Vector KGM 's Limited No Proof Warranty. Vector lighters passed all of KGM's demanding tests and inspection standards set by KGM Quality Control. KGM warranty covers mechanical parts only under normal use and excludes damages resulting from misuse, tampering and abuse of lighters. This warranty does not apply to the outer case finish of a lighter.

Weight & Balance:

The Tri-Pump is heavy, weighing in by itself at approximately 1 pound 10 ounces. This is good, since it is designed to be a table top lighter, the lighter will stay put and not roll around on you. As for balance, the lighter is solid, not top heavy, not bottom heavy. The balance is good.

Vector KGM has affixed a foam bottom to the base of the Tri-Pump, this not only helps against scratching the surface it resides on, but it is relatively anti slip as well.

As expected, with three (3) independent burners, we lit up cigars ranging from 50 to 60 + gauge, experiencing perfect burns. There was no hesitation when attempting to ignite, in fact, some may feel that it is too powerful.

One cool thing that Vector KGM does, is they typically test their products for use at specific altitudes. The Tri-Pump has been Altitude Tested up to 12,000 ft.  This is about the height at the peak of East Quad at Vail Ski Resort.

Fuel Economy:

Well, since it has a rather large butane tank, we have lit up a ton cigars within no hesitation or sputter. We will be updating this part of the review with a final cigar lighting number off of one butane fill.

Price

At about $135.95, this lighter is priced perfectly for what you get. However, there are always more or less expensive options out there, this lighter is a solid choice that is bound to last for years.

Long Term Use:

We have been using this lighter (Black Matte Finish) for the past six months multiple times a day. The fuel tank is huge, and the lighter has proved to be impeccable. We highly recommend this for table top use.

Warranty:

Backed by Vector KGM 's Limited No Proof Warranty. Vector lighters passed all of KGM's demanding tests and inspection standards set by KGM Quality Control. Vector KGM Thundra Triple Torch Lighter

Vector KGM Thundra Triple Torch Lighter

Our first impressions:

Packaging

Vector KGM Packages nearly all of their products in a gift box. Some are offered in a metal case, others, as the Thundra are placed neatly within a black pressboard box sporting the Vector logo. This box has a magnetic clap and is seamlessly encompassed within a second envelope sleeve.

Color Choices:

The color choices are status quo typical Vector KGM styling. Offered is Black Matte, Gunmetal Satin, Chrome Satin, High Polish Chrome and Black Crackle Matte.

Weight & Balance:

This lighter had some weight to it, weighing in by itself at nearly 10 ounces. This gives some reassurance if dropped or with repeated use, no internal parts are likely to break on you. Since it is designed to be a table top lighter, the weight is a huge pro, the lighter will stay put and not roll around on you. As for balance, the lighter is solid, not top heavy, not bottom heavy. The balance is good.

Ignition and Use:

Vector KGM manufactures one of the finest lines of butane torch lighters available on the market today. The feel of the Thundra when pressing the ignition button is solid. The button is large and comfortable to press. Especially if you are like me and have fat fingers… Props to Vector on this.

The Thundra has been Altitude Tested up to 10,000 ft.  This is about the height at the peak of Aspen Mountain.

Fuel Economy:

Well, since it has a rather large butane tank, we have lit up a ton cigars within no hesitation or sputter. We will be updating this part of the review with a final cigar lighting number off of one butane fill.

Price

At $59.95, pretty much on par for this style lighter. It is priced more reasonably and offers a larger fuel tank than others that we carry.

Long Term Use:

TBD

Warranty:

Backed by Vector KGM 's Limited No Proof Warranty. Vector lighters passed all of KGM's demanding tests and inspection standards set by KGM Quality Control. Blazer PB207 Review

This is a lighter designed around a cigar smoker's needs. In fact, the PB207 The Torch is the original cigar smoking lighter, the one that ignited lighter sales during the early part of the cigar boom. Over twenty years have passed since then but these fine Blazer lighters still set the standard.

This fine lighter was lost to the US market for a short time but has returned in a number of new finishes. The Blazer Torch comes now in nine colors, including the original black. The new finishes are camo blue, camo gray, clear, graphite blue, metallic blue, bright red, tiger stripe in brown and a sunny yellow.

The lighter now has a few more features. It is child resistant to comply with American safety standards. It uses an intuitive design that has been fully tested for safety and for usability. As a matter of fact, the design was awarded the highest possible results in the safety tests making for a lighter that is nearly child proof.

Blazer Lighters are very easy to unpack and use. Each one comes in an understated black box. The instruction manual is short and easy to read. Within it you will find complete instructions on how to work the lighter. Full details on how to safety refill the tank, the proper type of gas to use; everything is covered. They even tell you how to work the child safety or adjust the size of the flame!

I was pleased with the quality of the lighter. The colors are nice and rich and the lighter fit very nicely in my hands. It took me a few minutes to figure out that child safety lock. It would have been easier to have read the instruction booklet first!

The flame was very hot, you could probably melt a pop can with this thing. The website did mention it was the world's hottest lighter. I think I believe them. The flame is nice and strong, more then able to light my big cigars. We also tested the PB207 in a windy environment, and it didn't experience any problems.

The Blazer PB207 Lighter is made in Japan.

You can find more information about the PB-287 Here.

The IM Corona Double Corona Lighter

The IM Corona Double Corona Lighter

Many Pipe and Cigar smokers know the importance of a good, high-quality lighter for their smoking pleasure. The IM Corona Double Corona Lighter has long been the benchmark for this genre of lighters. Crafted with care for durability and reliability, this IM Corona Lighter is available in several finishes to suit any personal style. But the Double Corona is not just stunning, it's also backed by a generous warranty as well to assure satisfaction.

Advantages of the Double Corona Lighter

Crafted with reliability and longevity in mind, the IM Corona lighter provides a dual-flame nozzle which allows for a wide flame which is ideal for cigar or pipe smokers. This assures that the ignition of the tobacco is uniform and consistent as opposed to narrow flames which can cause uneven lighting and burning. The workmanship and attention to detail are apparent in each IM Corona Lighter, with flint roller ignition and unsurpassed quality throughout. Founded in 1876, the IM Corona lighters are crafted with only the best components and superior workmanship to provide years of carefree service.

Craftsmanship Abounds

Each IM Corona lighter is handcrafted and available in multiple finishes. This is no run-of-the-mill lighter, but rather a statement of your devotion to detail and desire for only the best lighter available for cigar and pipe smoking. Every detail of the IM Corona Double Corona is impeccable, down to the beauty of the available case finishes. Lighters are crafted with precision, using only the finest materials for longevity and smooth operation.

The Infamous Warranty

Each lighter is backed by a generous warranty, and their repair service is fast and work is extremely clean, should the need ever arise. While less expensive lighters might do, they won't provide the lifespan or elegance that is inherent in each IM Corona lighter. IM Corona Lighters are backed by a lifetime warranty and if something doe every happen to breakdown, it will cost you a simple $9 that basically covers the shipping back from the repair. If you are missing parts, it is about $6 per part, for a tamper or fuel lid for example.

Purchasing an IM Corona Double Lighter

When you've decided that only the best will do, it's time to take a look at the IM Corona line of lighters. Whether for your own use or as a thoughtful gift for that smoker on your gift-giving list, you will find that there are several options to chose from. Selecting just the right finish for your lighter purchase can be daunting. Consider the personality of the user when making your selection. Gold cases, pewter, barley chrome, and black matte are some of the finishes you can choose from. Each finish imparts a luxurious and unique style. For the hip user, perhaps the barley chrome finished case is appropriate. For the more staid, classic smoker, consider the gold diamond finish. For a genteel, country-gentleman, the pewter case is a fine selection.

Don't take shortcuts when purchasing a high-quality lighter for your cigar or pipe smoking needs. Cigar Manor is an authorized and fully licensed dealer of IM Corona Products.

Buying the Best Lighter.

What to look for in Top Cigar and Pipe Lighters

Is there a "best ligher"?  Well isn't this a loaded question....

Believe it or not, there is no correct answer to this!

There are many factors that need to be considered before you chose a lighter for your use. We will outline below what we like to call our infamous 7 step decision process offered to you only by Cigar Manor:

Step 1: Budget. This is clearly the most important. How much do you plan on spending on a lighter? $2, $25, $50, $100, more? Do you really need a new lighter? Can you afford the expense? Set your limits before moving forward.

Step 2: Your habits. Do you tend to lose things? Do you tend to break things accidentally? Do you always want to buy the newest best model of something? You get the drift.

Step 3: Usage. Will you use your lighter daily? Will you primarily use your lighter for cigars, pipes, a bottle opener, at high altitudes, on golf courses, to show off to your friends? Do you need a lighter with a large fuel capacity? If you use your lighter daily, one that is refillable such as a Zippo or any butane lighter would make the most sense as your cost of use will clearly out way buying disposable lighters once a month. If you use your lighter to primarily light pipes, you might want to consider one with a 90 deg angled flame such as the IM Corona Old Boy line. Using at high altitudes or on the golf course, the Xikar Stratosphere or Vertigo Golf Lighter would be a great choice. If you use your lighter as a bottle opener, you might want to stick with those disposables.

Step 4: Convenience, do you want a built in cutter or punch? Do you want your lighter to have a fuel level window? Is weight or size an issue?

Step 5: Power. Do you want to cremate what you intend to ignite? Do you demand precision? Do you prefer the reliable flint based soft flame lighters? There are many options out there from, IM Corona Soft Flame lighters (these are all works of art), the precision of the Black Label Dictators Flat Flame or will you be using this in your man cave? A table top torch lighter such as the Lamborghini Mugello might be a good choice

Step 6: Manufactures customer service and product reviews. Customer reviews are almost a necessary evil, read them. Whether they are all accurate or not, you will learn. You should certainly look into the manufacturers policies and read reviews about their customer service, companies are different and have different methodologies.

Step 7: Research the many manufacturers pricing policy. A pricing policy basically means that the retailer can only discount their products by a specific percentage dollar amount. It is important to know about this, especially when investing in a moderate to higher priced lighter and buying this online. Many stores will simply discount the product violating the manufactures policy. You might say, "That's great!". Well, yes and no. Yes, because you get the product cheaper, but no, because many manufacturers will not honor the product warranty if this situation arises, make sure you know what you are buying when you are buying. One way to find out more information about this would be to call the manufacturer directly and ask to speak with their warranty department. If this becomes to difficult to obtain, with some research and common sense you should be able to figure it out. For example, lets assume product "abc" is for sale on 10 websites and 2 local brick and mortar stores. The brick and mortar stores are selling the product for $100, 7 websites are selling the product for $90, 2 websites are selling the product for $65 and one website is selling the product for $89.99. A safe assumption here would be that the manufacturer allows a 10% maximum pricing discount from MSRP.

You might wonder why we didn't mention the exterior finish or color of choice. This is because many manufactures have adapted to their markets, offering them a variety of choices for their next purchase.

Good luck and if we can be of any help, please don't hesitate to contact us directly!

Using the proper flints for your lighter

We have received many inquiry's about using a different manufacturers flint for lighters manufactured by another company. For example, can I use a Zippo flint for my IM Corona Lighter?

Technically speaking, if you can fit the flint in the allocated space within the lighter, you could use it.

However, it is recommend by all manufacturers to use only the flints manufactured by them (kinda like OEM).

For example, Zippo flints are considerably harder than the stock and replacement flints from IM Corona. This could in fact ruin the spark wheel of your precious gem after normal usage.

Vise versa, a Zippo's spark wheel will eat softer flints like they are going out of style.

Hope this helps!
